'Adebayor' - shame the mancs can't afford that many letters on their back

‘Adebayor is a great player and he’ll show that again at Manchester City’. Which begs the question, why to another English team. I must say I am not sad to see the back of Adebayor, but to another premier league club? City are buying a troublesome ego, but he could come back to haunt his boo boys next season. In the last four seasons, we have not finished in the top two, making us the most vulnerable to lose our ‘big four’ status. Although I’m glad to see him gone, this is a big gamble by the special one, who obviously believes he is a quality player. It would have been safer to sell him to a foreign team, where he would be less able to hurt us.

Just to say we don’t qualify for the champions league next season is an under statement, we wouldn’t just be losing a special match every other Tuesday or Wednesday night. The champion’s league gives us much needed revenue each year, for transfers and to pay off our supposedly crippling debt. Moreover, the chance of champion’s league football is a selling point to possible transfer targets, as what quality player would want to play in the bog standard Europa League. It would make the task of keeping the likes of Cesc and Arshavin at the club a tad harder as well.

This is unquestionably a possibility, but the reason for selling is unclear. Wenger states that we have lost a great player. So why did he sell? He says that the crowd got on his back, but if the crowd got on Kaka’s or Ronaldo’s back, would you give up and sell them? No, you would stick by them, as they truly are great players, and they would turn it round with great performances.

The move could go the other way though. I think there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Adebayor has the potential to be a massive headache for Mark Hughes. With eight strikers at the club, players are going to have to fill the subs bench. I doubt very much Ade and Santa Cruz will be paired, so it will be one or the other. I can’t see Ade being graceful in not being starting but he is not the only ego that’s a problem. Santa Cruz must feel quite good about himself, costing £18m, whilst there is Bellamy (nuff said), Tevez (a player who is only at City because of his frustration at not being first choice at United) and Robinho. But surely, anything less than fourth place will not be good enough for the owners.

However, we haven’t finished outside the top four under Wenger. We were right to get rid of the lazy striker, as he was over-rated. Most of his goals were made for him by class midfielders, he can’t beat a player one on one and he has shit control. Man City may get fourth, but they won’t be taking our place, as I feel something special will happen this season, if we stay clear from injury. If Liverpool lose Alonso and Mascherano, it will be the debt ridden scousers who will miss out on champions league football.

Description/Opinion

The classy midfielder has been  first choice last season, and is certainly on his way to the top.

He was handed his debut at just sixteen, and already has four caps for the Belguim national side. Like

all great players in his position, he has incredible vision accompanied with the ability to pick out

a pass. To add he has pace and can dribble with the best of them. He has been recommended to Real Madrid

by a certain Zinadine Zidane, who might know a thing or two about football. He can play on either wing or

in centre midfield.

There are a few things that could happen now:

. Van Persie could play left wing. He is more than capable of this and it allows Arshavin to play his favourite position behind the front man (Bendtner, Eduardo, or Vela). After all it will only be for 2-3 months according to Arsenal.com.

. Arshavin can remain on the left wing.

. Rosicky, if fit enough will start on the left wing. His lack of fitness will result with him being subbed in games and this could mean Jack Wilshere or Aaron ramsey gets more playing time.
